Designed by Studio KO (Karl Fournier and Olivier Marty) and opened in October 2017, this museum is a masterwork of contemporary architecture that draws deeply from Moroccan tradition. The exterior is clad in terracotta bricks arranged in a lace-like pattern that evokes the weave of fabric — a reference to YSL's couture. Inside, 4,000 square meters house rotating exhibitions of Saint Laurent's work alongside a permanent collection, a research library, a bookshop, an auditorium, and a café. The building uses passive cooling techniques inspired by traditional Moroccan architecture. Architecture critics have called it one of the most significant new buildings in Africa.
