Perched at the mouth of the Bou Regreg River in Rabat, this 12th-century Almohad fortress-neighborhood is one of Morocco's most perfectly preserved kasbahs. Its monumental Almohad gate — Bab Oudaya — is considered the finest example of Almohad decorative stonework. Inside, whitewashed houses with blue trim line narrow streets (a later Andalusian addition from the 17th century, when Moriscos expelled from Spain settled here). The Andalusian Garden within the walls was laid out in the 20th century in traditional Islamic garden style.
